Tim has an interesting post this morning on our likes and dislikes. While this is about CrossFit, might there something else in your life that you dislike that maybe you could try a bit harder to get better at? And then you might just start liking it a bit more.
Of the several hundred exercises and movements [...]
Take, for example, the Workout of the Day:
21-15-9 reps for time of:
Kettlebell snatch 24/16kg
Burpees
45 reps total for each.
I use a 24kg (56lb) kettlebell.
Looks simple, right? It is.
It also looks pretty easy.
Easy – NOT!
If you think it’s easy, try it sometime and let me know how it works out for ya…
It took me 10:12 [...]
Am I sore from yesterday's workout!! All those pullups and situps and squats and pushups!! It's enough to make me want to go back to step aerobics class!!
This morning's workout was no easier. There is no name for it. Maybe I'll call it, "Near Death Experience, 9/25/08."
Warmup (same as yesterday):
10 Pullups
15 Pushups
20 Air squats
Row 500 meters
Workout of the day:
3 rounds for time of:
12 Pull-ups
20 Double KB clean and jerk
15 Double KB squats
20 KB snatch each arm
10 Knee to elbows
Used a 26# KB as I only had 4 hours of sleep and was still very sore from yesterday's workout.
Time: 25:48

Another near death experience!! "Barbara" is such an innocent name to call such a killer workout. CrossFit is deceptive that way.
Surviving a CrossFit workout takes as much mental discipline as physical discipline. Several times during this workout - not to mention every other one as well - I feel like quitting because I'm so exhausted. I take each workout one rep at a a time. Pullups right now are particularly challenging because my arms and back are sore from last week's lifting.
But I keep pushing on. Why? Because of CrossFit, I am in the best physical shape of my life. CrossFit pushes both my physical and mental limits of what I think I can accomplish. And this crosses over into the rest of my life. If I can do CrossFit, what else can I do that maybe I thought I couldn't do before?
And now, on to Barbara!!

This morning's workout was easier said than done, of course.
First, warmups:
21 Turkish getups
50 air squats
WOD:
21-15-9 reps of:
Double kettlebell push jerk (using two 35lb kettlebells)
Box jumps 24"
Pull-ups
My time:
10:21
Sounds easy, doesn't it? The pullups are always hard for me for some reason. My arms feel like they are about to fall off!!
